Special Edition
As some of you know, I love good design almost as much as I love my mom (don’t tell her that). I’ve come across a lot of amazing designs this week and so I felt like dedicating an email to highlighting the designs and the designers behind them.
I always say, design matters. People don’t buy a Tesla Model S because it gets great range, was assembled in the U.S., and has a dog mode to keep your dog comfortable while you grab your Boba tea with oat milk. This may help with the decision-making process, but the nail in the coffin for your pocketbook is the fact that the car is f*cking sexy and you will pay that extra $5K to have that small carbon spoiler on the tail of the car that will barely impact the performance.
The same goes for all products. Great design increases conversions, increases brand trust, creates a better experience for the end user, and frankly, makes you as the product manager or entrepreneur look awesome.
So in that spirit, here are some of my favorite design finds of the week!
Camber
Man oh man do I love a good UI. Camber has done it! Along with a great UI comes a wonderful brand design. This design is unique. One of the things I love so much about this design is that it reminds me of a game board (similar to Monopoly). Every interaction feels like a moment of childhood working my way through the game board. Hats off to Elena Saharova and Keith Burnson for pulling this all together. Check it out 👇
You know what really ups your level of design like almonds and fudge on a bowl of cookie dough ice cream (my fantasy) is custom illustrations. Illustrations bring a certain charm to a design and a brand. A few illustrations can take something boring and make it fun. Gusto is a perfect example of this. They took something as gross as payroll (🤮) and made it fun.
Syllabs by Mother Volcano is an illustration that I recently fell in love with. They bring pure joy to a B2B application. I will share the original sketches and then the final illustrations below 👇
There are some products that launch “Dark Mode” later in their product lifecycle to keep the design fresh and exciting. This UI is Dark Mode. NFTs are complex. Jarek Pastuszak makes it simple through the craft of good design. Grab your flashlights and let’s dive in 👇
This is a bit of a bonus piece. Tania Soler is an incredibly talented artist. While this may seem outside of the realm of the designs I typically share (especially because I’m not the biggest Disney fan), I think it’s worth acknowledging talented artists and what they can bring to design, product, and business success. Why am I sharing this piece specifically? I think it’s just flat-out stylistic and gorgeous. Might just be me!
