Ben Sampson Headshot

Hey, I'm Ben!

I build, buy, and invest in businesses.

I've had 2 successful exits. Way more failures.

I write about building Freedom Companies to achieve what I call the three freedoms:

A life of financial freedom.
A life of time freedom.
A life of creative freedom.

I send one action packed email a week called a 1x1x1 where I write about businesses and people that I think are inspirational when it comes to creating freedom in their lives, or updates on the businesses we're building and buying.

This newsletter is the highlight of my week and I hope I can inspire and guide you to building your own freedom company.

This newsletter is changing like the Planters Peanuts logo. I hope this is just as tasty for you! 🥜

We’ve been gone, in space, but now we’re back! It’s your favorite product email only this time I’m going to talk about some changes to this letter and why. Let’s dive in!

Nobody likes change. I recently found out I have high cholesterol and can’t indulge in my daily bowl of ice cream anymore. Coconut ice cream here I come! But just like my change in ice cream, I felt it was time to change what I write about in this newsletter.

To the dozens of readers that are yelling at me “why”? I have so much more I want to personally write about than just product and design. So before you die-hard product folks hit that unsubscribe button, let me share a list of items I’ll be writing about in the future if you want to stick around.

What I’ll be writing about moving forward!

  1. Product! — Don’t worry. I still love product management and writing about how to build awesome products. This won’t stop.
  2. Design — You’re not losing this either. I love good design but will be sharing less occasionally.
  3. Businesses — My business partner and I are constantly tinkering away at our existing business ventures and plugging away at new ones. Looking forward to sharing the wins and losses here with you all.
  4. Finance — I spend too much time thinking about personal investments and finances. So much so that it has a negative impact on my life at times. That being said, I’m going to share where I’m finding success along with current challenges.
  5. Notes to self — 4 years ago when I started working on WeHero, I started writing down “notes to self”. My notes to self are thoughts and learnings that I have that I’d like to save for future reference. I share these regularly on LinkedIn but will also share some here.
  6. Life updates — I’m not on social media (with the exception of LinkedIn) so this is my only outlet folks!

So there you have it! I won’t dive deep into any of these areas with you all today but stay tuned for future letters. In my next letter, I’ll share about the tractor company that’s been my most successful investment of the year, end-of-year business reflections, and maybe a video of me eating sh*t mountain biking.

Notes To Self

Like I said above, 4 years ago when I started working on WeHero, I started writing down “notes to self”. My notes to self are thoughts and learnings that I have that I’d like to save for future reference. I now have hundreds of these notes. To put them to better use, I’m going to share a few of these in the newsletters. Maybe someone out there will find the notes to be helpful during their life journey as well!

Me! No cool sponsors this week for the dozens of readers. So you all get our hero, Mr. Elon Musk, because his products go to space and that’s where our logo is from.

Disclaimer: I don’t pay an editor to review my writing. If I made a typo you can publicly humiliate me on Twitter or LinkedIn. If you find any of my writing too direct or unprofessional, god made an <unsubscribe button>.

It actually wasn’t a god. Just some guy named Jared Dunn.
