Ben Sampson Headshot

Hey, I'm Ben!

I build, buy, and invest in businesses.

I've had 2 successful exits. Way more failures.

I write about building Freedom Companies to achieve what I call the three freedoms:

A life of financial freedom.
A life of time freedom.
A life of creative freedom.

I send one action packed email a week called a 1x1x1 where I write about businesses and people that I think are inspirational when it comes to creating freedom in their lives, or updates on the businesses we're building and buying.

This newsletter is the highlight of my week and I hope I can inspire and guide you to building your own freedom company.

Ben's 1x1x1 - July 12, 2024 🚀 - Shots On Goal

For those of you that are new here, every week I send what I call a 1x1x1.

One learning, reminder, or interesting thought from my week.
One interesting find/tool from my week.
One image from my life.

Let's dive in 👇

Interesting thought from the week

My business partner and I have a lot of weaknesses. But amidst our graveyard of weaknesses, I think we have a few strengths.

One of our greatest strengths - we take a lot of shots on goal.

What do I mean by that?

To make a goal, you have to take a lot of shots (at least I do because I'm a loser at most sports).

Same goes for business. We have way more failures than wins.

The only reason we have a few wins, is because we have taken a lot of shots on goal.

I think of it as the more shots on goal we take, the more we increase our surface area for product market fit and lucky break throughs.

We're not the only ones with this kind failure to success ratio.

Harvard Business School did a study that found first time entrepreneurs have an 18% success rate and those that have previously failed have a 20% success rate.

The takeaway is 1 in 5 ventures work it out which is why it's essential to not quit, accelerate the speed at which you test, and keep taking shots.

Interesting find/tool of the week

I had no idea that there was a wine purifier that removes sulfites?!
