Ben Sampson Headshot

Hey, I'm Ben!

I build, buy, and invest in businesses.

I've had 2 successful exits. Way more failures.

I write about building Freedom Companies to achieve what I call the three freedoms:

A life of financial freedom.
A life of time freedom.
A life of creative freedom.

I send one action packed email a week called a 1x1x1 where I write about businesses and people that IĀ think are inspirational when it comes to creating freedom in their lives, or updates on the businesses we're building and buying.

This newsletter is the highlight of my week and I hope IĀ can inspire and guide you to building your own freedom company.

I'm making wine - Ben's 1x1x1 - October 11, 2024 šŸš€

For those of you that are new here, every week I send what I call a 1x1x1.

One thought from my week.
One interesting find/tool from my week.
One image from my life.

Let's dive in šŸ‘‡

Thought from the week

I'm doing the thing. I'm making wine!

And no, this isnā€™t some new business venture (even though my brain is screaming to turn it into one).

Iā€™m forcing myself to just explore for the sake of curiosity.

While this may not seem like the most productive exercise, I think you can stumble across so many opportunities purely by being curious and exploring.

Already, Iā€™m spotting gaps in the wine industry I never would've noticed if I hadn't jumped in and gotten my hands dirty (literally).

The hardest part when it came to getting my hands dirty was finding a vineyard that would allow to pick only 100 lbs of grapes (shout out to Gwen for letting me on her beautiful property).

But finding a vineyard was just the beginning. Making wine has been way more work than I anticipated.

My desk jockey lifestyle isn't familiar with clipping vines in the sun, de-stemming, and crushing grapes for hours.

Not to mention the real kicker - the feedback loop.

In the businesses I work on, I'm familiar with fast feedback loops.

I won't know if any of this work was any good for 12 months.

Talk about a lesson in patience.

My message here is that I think random expeditions like this are 100% worth it.

I always find that there are numerous lessons and discoveries as a result.

You just can't lose.

In a rut? Get curious and throw yourself into the deep end.

Special shout out to my wife, Parker Jane, Eli and Becca for all the help. You guys are awesome!

Interesting find/tool of the week

No interesting finds worth mentioning this week! Check back next week.

Beautiful wedding celebrating some of our best friends! The only bummer was no country music on this beautiful ranch.

See you all next week!
