Thought from the week

Marketing and sales are damn near everything.

Over the last 12 months, I feel like I’ve been back in school except this time, it’s not some fancy college program.

Nope, I’ve been grinding through a full-on, self-imposed marketing bootcamp.

We’re talking Meta ads, Reddit ads, Google Ads, SEO, prospecting, outreach, direct mail, cold calls, newsletters, YouTube content.

Basically, if it exists, I’ve probably tested it (and probably wasted many thousands dollars learning what does and doesn’t work).

Why go this deep?

Because I believe in today’s world, marketing and sales aren’t just important.

They’re damn near everything.

Yes, a great product or service matters.

But let’s be real.

In many cases the barriers to entry are lower than ever.

You can spin up a SaaS product with no code, launch a business with off-the-shelf tools like Bolt, and have an AI assistant write your website copy while you’re making coffee.

Tech and services are getting easier. Marketing is getting harder.

Two years from now, the companies that win won’t just have the best product or services.

They’ll have the best reputation and the best marketing game.

So yeah, I’ve basically been hitting the mental gym in preparation.

Calling it bulking season for my marketing brain.

Interesting find/tool of the week

We’re in San Luis Obispo this month and took a walk around Cal Poly.

Cool campus, great energy… but my main takeaway?

The GrubHub robots are running the place.

These little guys are out here cruising around like they own the joint delivering burritos, dodging students, and probably plotting world domination between orders.

Starting the college tours early.

Gotta make sure they get a head start on crushing those admissions essays.

See you all next week!
