Ben Sampson Headshot

Hey, I'm Ben!

I build, buy, and invest in businesses.

I've had 2 successful exits. Way more failures.

I write about building Freedom Companies to achieve what I call the three freedoms:

A life of financial freedom.
A life of time freedom.
A life of creative freedom.

I send one action packed email a week called a 1x1x1 where I write about businesses and people that IĀ think are inspirational when it comes to creating freedom in their lives, or updates on the businesses we're building and buying.

This newsletter is the highlight of my week and I hope IĀ can inspire and guide you to building your own freedom company.

Solitude, reflection, growth - Ben's 1x1x1 - October 4, 2024 šŸš€

For those of you that are new here, every week I send what I call a 1x1x1.

One thought from my week.
One interesting find/tool from my week.
One image from my life.

Let's dive in šŸ‘‡

Thought from the week

Last week, I did something a little differentā€”I went on a solo retreat.
ā€‹
Yup, just me, myself, and I.

And let me tell you... game changer. Hereā€™s what went down šŸ‘‡

I spent three days alone in Park City, Utah to clear my head.

No distractions, no noise, just pure solitude.

Itā€™s honestly one of the best investments Iā€™ve ever made in myself.

Hereā€™s what hit me:

  1. Life is LOUD. You donā€™t even realize how much noise and distraction youā€™re living in until you strip it all away. When you're out there alone, everything slows down. Solitude is a gift.
  2. Curiosity came back. Without my phone glued to my hand, I found myself wandering around like a kid again, stumbling into experiences instead of scrolling mindlessly. I rediscovered what it feels like to just... explore.
  3. Clarity is real. I came out of this retreat with a clear sense of where my time and energy should go. Waking up now, I know Iā€™m working on the right things. There's a stronger vision for what I want my life to look like in the next five years. I can taste it.
  4. Mindset shifts. I saw the beliefs and fears that were holding me backā€”keeping me from future wins (and healthy failures). Breaking those mental barriers felt like getting unstuck.
  5. Phones are the worst. I didnā€™t realize how addicted I was to my phone until I bricked it for the retreat. I legit felt like a cocaine addict checking my pocket every 10 minutes during the first day. Wild. But after breaking free, Iā€™ve decided: this is going to be a routine thing for me moving forward.

Feeling lost, stuck, or just in a rut? Go on a solo retreat. Seriously. Itā€™s like hitting the reset button on life.

I didnā€™t plan it all myself thoughā€”I had help. My buddies Eli and Kyle over at Peak Fulfillment set up the whole thing. If youā€™re thinking about doing something like this, hit me up and Iā€™ll connect you with them.

Trust me, itā€™s worth it.

Interesting find/tool of the week

I hosted a cocktail hour this past Wednesday for local business owners and founders.

ā€‹My gong was the perfect tool for getting everyone's attention. Also looks great on the desk. I feel worldly now.

Image from my life

The Aspen trees in Park City this time of year were incredible.

See you all next week!
