Super human contractors 💪 - Ben's 1x1x1 - November 1, 2024 🚀
For those of you that are new here, every week I send what I call a 1x1x1. One thought from my week. One interesting find/tool from my week. One image from my life.
Let's dive in 👇
Thought from the week
The way most companies treat contractors is pretty disgusting.
I LOVE building teams. It's one of the big reasons I love starting companies.
One of the things that has always bothered me is how businesses treat contractors like disposable assets. There’s a mindset of “just give me the results” and move on.
There is a better way.
An area where we have been unique over the years is the way we manage and treat our contractors as team members.
The way you work with contractors can be a huge advantage.
Let me explain👇
We historically have treated our contractors in a similar fashion to the way we treat our team members.
That means:
👉 Our contractor get company swag
👉 Our contractors are in the loop on our company goals
👉 Our contractors get performance based bonuses
👉 Our contractors hear from us on their birthdays
👉 Our contractors can see that we authentically care about them and their careers
This approach surprises almost every contractor we work with—they’ve rarely had this experience.
Here’s why it’s such a powerful strategy: these simple acts of care create massive improvements in contractor performance.
👉 Our contractors work much harder for us than for other clients.
👉 They care about our business because we care about them.
👉 They shift from acting only when we ask to acting before we ask.
My takeaway? Contractors are people, not line items.
Building real relationships and treating contractors as team members has been rewarding and impactful. I encourage you to do the same and see the benefits!
That’s right. No fancy tech, no app with a thousand features—just a simple piece of paper.
But this card? It runs my life.
Every morning, I grab a new one and write an inspirational message on top (you know, like “You got this, champ!”).
Then, I scribble out my tasks, sort 'em by priority, and boom—I’m in business.

Our friend Isaac played the part of Anthony in our local production of Sweeney Todd. He crushed the role! Love seeing people pursue and enjoy their passions like this.
