For those of you that are new here, every week I send what I call a 1x1x1. One thought from my week. One interesting find/tool from my week. One image from my life.
And by “reading” I mean rereading entire pages like a lunatic because it’s one of the few books that actually gets what it means to create stuff in this weird little world.
I don’t paint. I don’t write poetry.
I believe that my form of art is really building businesses. Most of the businesses (especially the brands) are really just an extension of myself.
Every company, every brand, it’s all just a reflection of whatever chaos is currently swirling inside my head. Some days I feel like Picasso. Other days I’m a kid with crayons and a caffeine problem.
Here are a few quotes from the book that really slapped me in the soul:
The law of attraction is real. Not in the way it’s often sold. Not because we put out a vision board and stare at it. But because when we commit to a vision, we begin to notice things related to it. We start to tune our awareness, and the world responds.
This really resonated with me. When you truly commit to a vision, your brain starts running a 24/7 search for opportunities. “Oh hey, this convo might help your startup.” “Yo, that random DM? It’s not random.”
The universe doesn’t reward wishful thinking. It rewards strategic noticing. Another one I loved 👇
You start with not knowing. Then you create something. Then you refine it. Then you abandon it. Then you return. Then you realize it was always about the process. Not the piece.
Ok, ok last one I promise👇
When we’re stuck, we’re not making the work better by wrestling with it. Instead, we’re reinforcing a belief that we’re stuck. If we believe we’re stuck, we are. Let go. Step away. Find another path. The work continues, whether or not you’re actively doing it.
Next time you're stuck, don’t beat yourself up. Don’t open a Notion doc and force a mediocre idea into existence. Go for a walk. Take a nap. Shave your head. I don’t know.
Your subconscious is probably grinding away in the background anyway just waiting for you to shut up so it can talk.
Anyway, if you’re a creator (in any form), this book’s a gem.
Less “how to win,” more “how to be.”
Highly recommend.
Interesting find/tool of the week
Nothing to report this week. In the lab testing more tools as we speak!
